Temple Israel Columbus Teen Programs

Our teen programs are for students in grades 8 to 12 and include Social Justice and Confirmation. Teens can also join students from other Reform Synagogues for a variety of events as well as become teaching assistants in our Religious School. See details below.

8th & 9th Grade

Tzedek, Tzedek Tirdo

Justice, justice you shall pursue!

Cantor Moses will lead the 8th and 9th graders on monthly visits of learning and service as students will study the difference between social justice and social action. They will “pray with their hands and feet” by performing a service project once a month on Shabbat. Those students in 9th Grade will have the option to attend the Union for Reform Judaism Social Justice Teen Seminar in Washington, DC, known as L’Taken.

There will be a $360 per 9th grade student cost for those who wish to attend the L’Taken seminar.

10th to 12th Grade

Confirmation

Na’aseh V’nishma. We will do and understand.

Rabbi Mars will lead 10th through 12th grade students on the journey of confirmation where they will study Jewish identity, history and our rituals that make us a holy people. Students will participate in weekly online sessions. This class culminates with a Confirmation ceremony and a trip to New York to learn about the city’s Jewish history.

There will be a per student fee for those wishing to go on the NYC Confirmation trip.

11th & 12th Grade

Torah, Avodah u’Gemilut Hassadim

Pillars of Judaism: The Study of Torah, Engaging in Prayer & Acts of Loving Kindness

Students who have already completed the Confirmation milestone, will be able to continue to participate in the following teen programs:

1. Volunteering at Hilltop

2. Making Midrash

3. Being a Madrich

4. Participating in Reform Teen Youth Programs with other synagogues in Central Ohio

5. TSOTI- Teen Society of Temple Israel
